Breakdown of MASA Grants:

MASA awards two kinds of financial aid: Automatic Universal Grants (provided to every participant who meets the basic qualifications below) and Need-Based Financial Aid Grants (provided to every participant who meets the qualifications listed in the section below titled "Need-Based Financial Aid Grants").

Automatic Universal Grants
All Post-High School (Gap Year) Participants and Undergraduate Students automatically receive a universal grant of $1,000.

Need-Based Financial Aid Grants
  1. Financially Dependent Participants
Financially dependent participants on MASA accredited programs of any length can apply for a need-based financial aid grant of up to $3,000 (if they are from the US or Canada), or $10,000 (if they are from any other nation) if they demonstrate that their families' annual income does not exceed $22,500 per person.
  2. Financially Independent Participants
Financially independent participants on MASA recognized programs of any length can qualify for a need-based financial aid grant of up to $3,000 (if they are from the US or Canada), or $10,000 (if they are from any other nation) if they fit the following requirements:
    • They present a notarized letter from their parents confirming their independence.
    • They have an income of $45,000 or less per year and must provide proof of this income in the form of salary/pay slips for 6 months prior to the start of the Israel program.
    • They demonstrate fiscal independence by showing a housing lease with their names for at least six months prior to the start of the Israel program. College/university housing is not acceptable.

If a program is shorter than 10 months, the need-based grant will be proportional to the length of the program.

If you are from the US or Canada and receive a Financial Aid Grant, you will not receive the Universal Grant. If you are from another nation, Financial Aid Grants are awarded in addition to the Universal Grant.

Basic Requirements for MASA Grants:
  • You must be Jewish
  • You may not have Israeli citizenship (or if you do, you must have left Israel before your 14th birthday and have lived outside Israel for at least the last 4 years)
  • You must not have participated in an organized long-term program in Israel since September 2004
  • You must have graduated high school by the program start date
  • You must be under the age of 31 at the start of the program.
