Placement Options
Below is a selection of Tailor Made Volunteer options that we have already arranged. Get an idea of what you'd like to do while volunteering in Israel from the list below. Additional options can be found.
Senior Citizens Center
Residential home for the elderly often divided by departments ranging from completely dependent individuals to almost entirely independent individuals. At these centers there is often the opportunity to participate or lead different cultural activities, arts & crafts projects, etc.
Fast Facts:
- Place*: Jerusalem, Kfar Saba, Herzliya (location based on availability)
- Time: Year round
- Participant Duties**: assisting the nurses, food distribution, working in various departments in the center (with different levels of independence), help feed elderly patients, assistance in walking, social and cultural activities, arts and crafts assistance
- Housing: included: shared room with toilet/bathroom, internet, amenities if facility has it (i.e. television room, gym)
- Food: 3 meals per day, 7 days per week in cafeteria
- Volunteering Commitment:
- Jerusalem: minimum 90 days - if volunteer opts out of accommodation with the facility then a transportation stipend is provided
- Kfar Saba: minimum 30 days - if volunteer opts out of accommodation with the facility then a transportation stipend is provided
- Herzliya: minimum 30 days
*All locations are in the center region, close to all major forms of transportation.
**Volunteer is welcome, and in fact encouraged, to share other talents, ex. teaching English or sharing musical abilities.
Medical Centers
Treatment centers for accident/terror victims, war veterans, elderly and chronically ill of all ages. These centers provide medical care, rehabilitation services and nursing care for chronic patients.
Fast Facts:
- Place: Tel Aviv, Azur, Jerusalem (location based on availability)
- Time: Year round
- Participant Duties: assisting staff with trauma relief and rehabilitation patients, terrorist victims, patients who have been in major accidents, working with victims of all ages; children, adults and seniors
- Housing: included: shared room with toilet/bathroom, internet
- Food: 3 meals per day, 7 days per week in cafeteria
- Volunteering Commitment*:
- Jerusalem: minimum 30 days, if volunteer opts out of accommodation with the facility then a transportation stipend is provided
- Tel Aviv: minimum 30 days, if volunteer opts out of accommodation with the facility then a transportation stipend is provided
- Azur: minimum 30 days, if volunteer opts out of accommodation with the facility then a transportation stipend is provided
*For strictly medical volunteering experience (for licensed practitioners) minimum 3 months
Health Care Institutions
Provides services for patients with mental retardation, mental health problems, learning disabilities, minimal brain damage, Asberger syndrome and autism. Some institutions provide housing, employment and/or educational services for these individuals and all try and teach the patient how to become independent.

- Time: Year round
- Participant Duties: assistance with day-to-day care of adult residents (autism, retardation, down syndrome, etc.)
- Housing: included: shared room with toilet/bathroom, internet
- Food: 3 meals per day, 7 days per week in cafeteria
- Volunteering Commitment**:
- Binyamina: minimum 90 days - if volunteer opts out of accommodation with the facility then a transportation stipend is provided
- Tiberias: minimum 90 days - if volunteer opts out of accommodation with the facility then a transportation stipend is provide - adults only, Jews/Arabs (coexistence)
- Binyamina - children, youth, young adults - head injuries, day-to-day care of residents, cultural/social activities
- Jerusalem - adults only

Soup Kitchen
Institutions which provide one hot meal a day to needy individuals. Some soup kitchens also provide extra services like access to a free dentist.

- Housing: not included
- Food: 1 meal per day, 6 days per week
- Volunteering Commitment: no minimum time required
- Volunteering Hours: 10am - 2pm

Community Centers
A central after-school gathering place for children from low socioeconomic backgrounds. One meal is provided after school for each child, and then homework help is offered for a few hours.

Participant Duties: after-school programs for children of low socio-economic backgrounds from impoverished areas; tutoring English, social activities for children, fundraising, administrative work, computer work.

African Refugees
An aid organization for African refugees in the local area around the center. Organizes donations and holds English classes for refugees. At some centers a there is a job placement department, summer camps and after school programs as well.

Boarding Schools (Educational Villages)
Educational village where children live and learn for 9 months a year. Some boarding schools have an agricultural focus where children help maintain the farm and animals.

Eco Village
Organic, green communal wholistic living community. All volunteers live in mud huts or tee-pees. Some eco villages focus on spiritual living, while others focus on other areas like agriculture or eco-construction.

Animal Shelter

Women's Shelter
A shelter for homeless women to come to shower, sleep and get a meal during the morning and afternoon hours.
