As implied by the title, Tel Aviv Internship Experience is in Israel's most dynamic city, Tel Aviv-Yafo. Known to some as "the White City," "Silicon Wadi," or even "the Big Orange," Tel Aviv-Yafo mainly lives up to its reputation as the city that never stops. It's hard to explain in writing all that the city has to offer, whether describing the booming industries, the breathtaking views on the beach, or the historical architecture that intermingles with the modern businesses. The only way to truly experience Tel Aviv-Yafo is by exploring the streets on a sunny day. However, there is much to tell about the history and the benefits Tel Aviv Internship Experience participants will reap by living in the city for the five months of the program.
On the business front, Tel Aviv-Yafo has been one of the world's high-tech centers since the 1990's explaining its "Silicon Wadi" nickname and is also home to the Tel Aviv-Yafo Stock Exchange, the only one in Israel. As the city was built on sand dunes, agriculture was a non-profitable industry, and Tel Aviv-Yafo became the Israeli center for scientific and technological innovation. However, the city is also the major cultural center in the country, with several venues for the performing and visual arts. The arts are not contained to the traditional venues, though, performers and artists can be seen displaying their talents around the city at all times. For example, an artist's market takes place every Tuesday and Friday on Nahalat Binyamin Street and scattered amongst the various crafts are street performers of all kinds. Several of the cities clubs, bars, and restaurants also boast an impressive schedule of live music, which can cater to any musical taste. Or, one could visit the aptly named Drummer's Beach on Friday evenings before sundown to enjoy the music of, or take a part in, the drum circle that unofficially forms every week.
Regardless of whether you are interested in the business aspect of the city, the culture that seemingly can be found on any street corner, or if you are just interested in sampling the different cuisines that are represented by Tel Aviv-Yafo's amazing restaurants, there truly is no other place on earth like this city. Literally there is no other location where you will find yourself feeling like you're in a fast-paced modern metropolis and then after a 20 minute walk find yourself eating at a restaurant on the beach with your feet in the sand and the tide rolling in only inches away. After living in Tel Aviv-Yafo for five months, all the Tel Aviv Internship Experience participants will leave with lasting memories and an appreciation for how special of a city Tel Aviv-Yafo really is.
