Like many people before me, and many more to follow, I came to Israel on a program to consume this great country, live amongst is people, and above all else, to become Israeli. As the son of an Israeli, I have visited so many times I began to lose count, and upon graduating from the University of South Florida I knew once again, I would be back.
Through my connections with Oranim as a Taglit-Birthright Israel staff member, I found a way to return to Israel on the Community Involvement program as a volunteer for five months. I lived in and served the city of Ramla where I established a boys soccer club at a local school, taught English at a High School and helped in an after care program for children. My time in Ramla was invaluable. I learned to love a city for its true beauty; It's people, whereas most Israelis would never think to step foot inside the city limits.
The Community Involvement program helped me realize my dream of spending five months in Israel and furthermore, my ultimate dream; Aliyah. Currently, at the age of 26, Yoni is serving in the IDF as a combat soldier in the Nahal Infantry Brigade and lives in Tel Aviv.
